Legal information

Terms, privacy (DPDP Act 2023), and billing policies for SlipSmart users in India.

Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern access to and use of the SlipSmart mobile and web application, website, APIs, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Suhas Chadha, an individual sole proprietor based in India, doing business as "SlipSmart" ("we", "us", "our"), and is made available to users in India and elsewhere where offered.

By creating an account, checking the acceptance box at sign-up, or continuing to use the Service after we publish an update, you ("User", "you") confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Refund & Cancellation Policy, each incorporated by reference.

If you do not agree, you must not use the Service. We record the version of the legal bundle you accepted and the time of acceptance for compliance purposes.

2. Eligibility and account

You must be at least 18 years of age and competent to contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. You represent that information you provide is accurate and that you are authorised to upload any payslip, Form 16, or other document you submit.

You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at slipsmart.support@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access.

We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, applicable law, or that pose security, fraud, or abuse risk, with or without prior notice where permitted by law.

3. Nature of the Service

SlipSmart helps salaried individuals in India understand payslips, estimate taxes, explore regime and deduction scenarios, and receive educational prompts. Features may include server-side payslip parsing, encrypted storage, tax optimiser tools, an optional rule-based salary co-pilot (deterministic explanations generated from your own figures — no third-party AI), and paid "Pro" plans.

The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use unless we agree otherwise in writing.

4. Not professional advice (important)

All outputs — including tax estimates, regime comparisons, HRA illustrations, co-pilot replies, and savings figures — are for general information and education only. They are not legal, tax, investment, accounting, or HR advice.

SlipSmart is not a chartered accountant, lawyer, financial adviser, or tax return preparer. We do not file income-tax returns, represent you before any authority, or guarantee outcomes with the Income Tax Department, your employer, or any third party.

You alone are responsible for verifying figures against official sources (Form 16, Form 26AS/AIS, employer payroll, and a qualified professional) before making financial or compliance decisions. Reliance on the Service is at your sole risk.

5. Accuracy and limitations

Tax rules, slabs, rebates, and deadlines change. While we endeavour to align calculators with published CBDT norms for supported financial years, we do not warrant that any calculation, projection, or parser output is complete, current, or error-free.

OCR, PDF extraction, and heuristics may misread amounts or labels. Multi-employer years, job changes, arrears, perquisites, and non-salary income may not be fully reflected unless you upload complete data and configure gaps correctly.

Payslip PDFs are parsed on our servers over HTTPS. Common personal identifiers are automatically scrubbed before salary figures are stored. Photographing your slip uses on-device OCR; only extracted figures are sent when you save.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features without liability, including free or paid functionality.

6. Your content and licence

You retain ownership of payslips and other content you upload. You grant us a limited, revocable licence to process that content solely to provide the Service (including server-side parsing, PII scrubbing, AES-256 encryption at rest, backups, and support).

You must not upload malware, unlawful content, or documents you lack rights to use. You must not scrape, reverse engineer, or resell the Service except as allowed by applicable law.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including software, design, trademarks, and documentation, is owned by us or our licensors. Except for the limited right to use the Service under these Terms, no rights are granted to you.

Feedback you provide may be used by us without obligation or compensation.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY OF TAX RESULTS.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law in India, we and our personnel, service providers, and suppliers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, tax penalties, interest, or opportunity, arising from or related to the Service or these Terms, even if advised of the possibility.

Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) INR 1,000 (one thousand rupees).

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Indian law (including fraud or wilful misconduct). Where limitation is not permitted, our liability is limited to the minimum extent allowed by law.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless us and our affiliates from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka shall have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer forum jurisdiction where applicable to you as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Before formal proceedings, you agree to contact slipsmart.support@gmail.com and attempt good-faith resolution for at least thirty (30) days.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms by publishing a new version in the app and updating the legal bundle version. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email where appropriate at least fourteen (14) days before they take effect, unless urgent changes are required by law or security.

Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you disagree, stop using the Service and delete your account.

13. General

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Refund & Cancellation Policy, form the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede prior understandings on that subject.

Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may assign them to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the business.

Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how SlipSmart collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects personal data when you use the Service. We process data in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), the Information Technology Act, 2000, and applicable rules thereunder.

This Policy should be read with our Terms and Refund & Cancellation Policy.

2. Data fiduciary and contact

Suhas Chadha, an individual sole proprietor based in India doing business as "SlipSmart", is the data fiduciary for personal data processed through the Service.

Privacy requests: slipsmart.support@gmail.com

Grievance / DPDP complaints: slipsmart.support@gmail.com. As a sole proprietor, Suhas Chadha is the contact person for data-protection grievances. We aim to acknowledge grievances within 24–48 hours and resolve within timelines prescribed under the DPDP Act where applicable.

3. Personal data we process

Account data: name, email address, authentication identifiers (e.g. Firebase/Google), profile preferences (city, trade, tax regime preference), subscription status.

Financial/salary-related data you provide: payslip PDFs or images (processed on our servers), extracted salary components (encrypted at rest), tax declarations (rent, 80C, 80D, NPS, income gaps), Form 16 text, and derived analytics such as estimated tax.

Technical data: device/browser type, IP address, app and security/audit logs (recording security-sensitive actions such as sign-ins, consent changes, and data access, export, or deletion), crash diagnostics, and — only if you opt in inside the authenticated app — aggregated usage analytics.

Public marketing analytics: On our public website pages only (homepage, about, sign-in/sign-up, privacy and terms, and free calculator/learn articles), and only while you are not signed in, we may load Google Analytics to measure traffic and improve the site. Google Analytics does not run on any page after you sign in, including onboarding and the salary/tax tools. IP addresses are anonymized in that configuration.

Payment metadata: transaction IDs, plan, amount, and status from our payment partner (we do not receive or store full card credentials).

We do not store raw payslip PDF files. Common personal identifiers (such as PAN, bank account numbers, email, phone, and detected names) are automatically scrubbed before salary figures are encrypted and saved; any residual extracted text is stored only in encrypted form.

4. Purposes and legal bases

We process data to: provide and secure the Service; sync encrypted backups; run parsers and tax tools you request; process subscriptions; comply with law; prevent fraud; and improve features (with opt-in analytics only).

Under the DPDP Act, processing is based on your consent (sign-up legal bundle, onboarding data-storage consent, optional co-pilot and analytics toggles), performance of contract (providing the Service you signed up for), and legitimate uses permitted by law (security, fraud prevention, compliance).

6. Sharing and processors

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share salary details with employers.

We use trusted processors under contract, such as: cloud hosting and database (e.g. Google Firebase/Firestore), authentication, payment gateway (Razorpay), email delivery (Resend), and Google Analytics (Google LLC) on our public marketing pages only — to understand site traffic and improve our website. Google Analytics is not active anywhere within the authenticated SlipSmart application: once you sign in, no analytics tracking occurs on any page where your salary or tax data is processed or displayed. IP addresses are anonymized for that use. Data may be processed on servers outside India; see our cross-border data transfer section below.

We may disclose information if required by court order, government authority, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

7. Retention

Payslip ciphertext/metadata: retained for up to three (3) years from the payslip month to support multi-year tax planning, year-over-year comparisons, and record-keeping, unless you delete sooner.

Chat history (if used): up to thirty (30) days on device-oriented flows as described in-app.

Tax planner inputs: retained per financial year while your account is active.

Account and consent records: retained while your account exists and for a reasonable period thereafter for legal, tax, and dispute resolution (typically up to three (3) years unless a longer period is required by law).

Security and audit logs (e.g. sign-ins, consent changes, and data access, export, or deletion events — including IP address and device/browser info): retained for up to twelve (12) months for security, fraud prevention, and compliance, then purged.

On account deletion or 'Delete all data', we purge user content within timelines stated in Settings, subject to backup lag and legal holds.

8. Your rights (DPDP Act)

Subject to applicable law, you may: access a summary of your data; request correction; withdraw consent for optional processing; request erasure via in-app deletion tools or email; and nominate a person to exercise rights in the event of death or incapacity (as per DPDP rules).

Exercise rights via Settings or slipsmart.support@gmail.com. We respond within statutory timelines (generally within one month, extendable where permitted).

If unsatisfied, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India when constituted and operational under the DPDP framework.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), authenticated access (Firebase), rate limiting, audit logging of security-sensitive events (such as sign-ins, consent changes, data exports, deletions, and administrative actions), and AES-256-GCM encryption at rest for salary payloads. When configured, data keys are wrapped with Google Cloud KMS (customer-managed keys). Raw payslip PDFs are not retained.

You are responsible for your Google account security. Do not share payslip screenshots containing PAN, bank, or employer identifiers in unsecured channels.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to persons under 18. We do not knowingly collect children's data. Contact us to request deletion if you believe a minor has registered.

11. Cross-border processing

Processors may store or process data on servers located outside India subject to applicable law and contractual safeguards. By using the Service you acknowledge such transfers where permitted.

12. Changes to this Policy

We will update this Policy when practices or law change. The 'Last updated' date and legal bundle version will change accordingly. Material changes will be communicated in-app or by email where appropriate.

Minor clarifications (such as 5 June 2026 — public marketing analytics disclosure) may be published without a blocking re-consent step when they do not change how salary data itself is processed.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

1. Scope

This Refund & Cancellation Policy applies to paid subscriptions and one-time purchases for SlipSmart Pro plans in India, in addition to our Terms and Privacy Policy.

Free features are not charged and are not subject to refunds.

2. Digital services

Pro access is a digital service delivered immediately upon successful payment. By completing payment, you request immediate supply of digital content and acknowledge that statutory withdrawal rights for distance contracts may not apply once delivery has begun, to the extent permitted under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and allied rules.

3. General no-refund rule

All fees paid are final and non-refundable, including partial-month or partial-year usage, accidental purchase, change of mind, or failure to use features — except where a refund is required by mandatory Indian law or expressly approved by us in writing.

We do not provide pro-rata refunds for unused days on monthly or annual plans after activation.

4. Limited exceptions

We may, at our sole discretion, issue a refund or credit only if: (a) we are legally compelled by a court or competent authority; (b) duplicate charges occurred due to a verified technical fault on our or the payment gateway's side; or (c) we permanently discontinue a paid feature you solely paid for and cannot substitute a reasonable alternative.

Refund requests must be emailed to slipsmart.support@gmail.com within seven (7) days of the charge with transaction ID and account email. Approved refunds are processed to the original payment method within fourteen (14) business days, subject to bank/payment partner timelines.

5. Cancellation

You may cancel auto-renewal anytime via account settings or by contacting support. Cancellation stops future billing; it does not entitle you to a refund for the current billing period already paid.

We may suspend or cancel Pro access for breach of Terms without refund.

6. Chargebacks and disputes

Initiating a chargeback without contacting us first may result in account suspension pending investigation. Fraudulent chargebacks may be reported to payment partners and authorities.

7. Pricing errors

If a price is displayed in error, we may cancel the order and refund the amount charged, or request true-up before granting Pro access.
